Yerrrrrr OUT!!!

Two days until the brog's big re-launch, and I've been spending most of my time preparing for that. But the computer geeks have freed me up long enough that I can play umpire for a little bit, and take a look at the teams that are almost certainly going to miss the dance this year. And what a list it is!

OHIO STATE -- Yerrrrrr OUT! The national runners-up lost the core of their team, so this really was no surprise. But at 18-12 they'll need to finish the regular season with a victory against Michigan State and then win at least once in the Big Ten Tournament. They play Michigan State again in the quarterfinals. So, in other words, see you in the NIT.

ARIZONA -- Yerrrrrrr OUT! Not even playing in the Pac-10 or a very good schedule -- the strength of schedule is ranked second overall in the country -- can help the Wildcats, considering their late season slide and 8-10 conference mark. At 17-13, they are without Lute Olson and without a spot in the field of 65.

FLORIDA -- Yerrrrrrrr OUT! The Gators are 21-9 but who did they beat? Temple? That's not going to cut it, and while the core of a two-time champion graduated, this is still a shocker to BB considering how Billy Donovan recruits. The best teams don't miss the tournament no matter who leaves. They just don't. But Florida is about to.

SYRACUSE -- Yerrrrrrr OUT! Maybe a victory against Villanova in the Big East Tournament tomorrow can save the Orangemen, but it doesn't look good. This is a program that has lived on the bubble since winning the national championship, quite a switch from its heydey in the '80s and '90s. It'll be surprising not to see Jim Boeheim in the field of 65, but hey, at least he has company.

More bubble breakdown when the brog goes into full gear in two days ...

How about Bruce Pearl for most underrated coach!!!!!! I mean COME ON, all we here about is how Chris Lofton carries that team, but Bruce Pearl makes that program better and better and better every year!!!

I think one just needs to look at what Duke did to the Badgers earlier this year. UW cannot defend a fleet footed, solid shooting team. I don't think Duke is that good but the point is Duke showed what matchup problems are created for UW when that type of team plays UW.

I think Bo Ryan is probably the most underrated coach in Men's College BBall, he does more with less talent year in and year out. However I don't see Wisconsin being able to compete w/ a team like Tennessee.

Hoosier, I like Louisville to reach the Sweet 16, but i LOVE Purdue. The "Baby Boilermakers" play with such heart, and are so good for a team that is so young. Now i know when looking for a successful March Madness team you look for a team with Seniors and experience, but I just love Purdue. They play with passion and I think they can reach the Elite-8 if given the right draw.

I like Louisville, too. And, don't count out Purdue in the Big Ten. They're coming on strong. Wouldn't count out Wisconsin in a duel with Tennessee. Both teams are well-coached.

UCLA?? Do you think their "luck" will hold, BB?

Thank you, Bracket Boy! Winning is not about talent alone, it is about performance in a variety of situations that a TEAM faces in a game. Remember there is no "I"in TEAM! It will be very lonely on "Old Rocky Top"!

Ahhhh ... now we're talking. What a lovely debate. I just want to fan the flames, so I'll say that Tennessee is more talented that Wisconsin, but Tennessee is also a perfect contender for an early upset.

Keep it going!

Bracket Brat, you wrong. Tennessee wins, Wisconsin loses. Learn about each team, then come back. The game wouldn't even be close.

Brian,

If Wisc. and Tenn. meet I would be more than happy to take the points you will be giving me and your money!!!! This is basketball not a circus! Wisc. wins the BB game, but Tenn. wins the side show!

Bracket Brat, Wisconsin is well coached however I can say with relative certainty they would not beat Tennessee.

I don't think you are giving Tenn. enough credit. Tenn is much too talented to make a definitive statment that they will not make the Final Four. You may end up being correct but to say they have NO chance might be a bit far fetched right now.

UMBC will be the best 16 seed, I liked what i saw from winthrop, oral roberts if they win the summit, however my personal favorite sleeper is the governors of austin peay, who we know is in, they are LEGIT

I'm sure most of us by now know that we can't call Butler, Drake, or Davidson a sleeper, so other than them, which teams that we may not be familiar with can make some noise in the tourny?

Brack,

it was great to see you at the SHU-RU game. You had a uniform on, Were you supposed to play? Perhaps you were the one that Eugene was passing too when he threw it out of bounds at the end of the game.

One thing BBoy, you can cheer on the Hall in the BET but do not wear a bright blue jacket ala BobbyG.

More--Memphis and Tennessee have NO chance of making the final four. Their hyperactive out of control style of basketball is so vulnerable to any team that is well coached. Hey committee, please make them number one seeds, so they can become bracket busters!

Could this be a year that only one or no top seed reaches the final four?!

BB, just remember my predictions come April.

I didn't realize that you were taking comments already. Here are my big bracket breakdowns:

Big East is an overrated conference with only 2 teams that can make a serious run: Louisville and Georgetown. I like Louisville to be in the final four!

UCLA scares me, too many squeakers against PAC-10 teams. What happens when they have to play the real physical teams!

Hey BB, are you checking ID's this year? Heard you had to be 18 years old to post!

BB, I mean COME ON!!! After beating Purdue AND Michigan State, you STILL think Ohio State is out?!?! Come on, now way! I think that if Syracuse wins a game or two in the Big East tourny, they'll put themselves in as well. After losing to Kentucky, I think unless Florida impresses us heavily in the SEC tourny, they're out. As for Arizona, they're in the Pac-10 (NCAA's best bball conference), so the committee might give them some slack and put them in. Gregg, Matt, Jay, any thoughts?
