The Kansas Breakdown
Who else would pay for the Kansas all-time team to play the UNC all-time team. I would say the UCLA all-time team, but I'm pretty sure it would win ...
All-time starting five
Wilt Chamberlain … Wilt The Stilt played only two seasons at KU, but changed the sport, averaging 29.9 points and 18.9 rebounds.
JoJo White … the explosive guard hit a last-second shot in 1966 that would have ended the historic run of Texas Western – but the refs ruled he was out of bounds.
Danny Manning … KU’s all-time leading scorer (2,951) and rebounder (1,187) lead the “Miracles” to the 1988 national championship.
Clyde Lovellette … the 6-foot-9 center led the 1952 Jayhawks to the national title and the 1952 U.S. national team to a gold medal – pretty good year.
Raef LaFrentz … the star of the dominant 1998 team that stumbled in the second-round finished his career as the school’s second leading scorer (2,066).
Best team
Phog Allen was in his 32nd year as head coach when his team won the 1952 NCAA championship – the first in Kansas history – with a 28-3 record. The Jayhawks beat St. John’s in the title game.
