The UCLA breakdown
Once again, as you'd expect from one of the best programs ever, UCLA's all-time team features the best of the best ...
All-time starting five
Lew Alcindor … only the single greatest college player ever, with three national championships, 2,325 points (a 26.4 average) and a dynasty on his resume.
Bill Walton … a three-time player of the year from 1972-74, he led the Bruins to a record 88-game winning streak during his time in Westwood.
Walt Hazzard … he is the guard who started the dynasty, leading John Wooden to his first title and undefeated season in 1964.
Reggie Miller … before he battled the Knicks and Spike Lee, the skinny guard finished his career second in scoring behind only Alcindor.
Marques Johnson … the 6-7 swingman lifted Wooden to his final national championship in 1975 and then won the very first Wooden Award as player of the year.
Best team
With a record 11 national titles, take your pick. BB is going with the 1973 team, the heart of that 88-game winning streak and the seventh-straight title. The 30-0 season was capped with Bill Walton’s near perfect 21-of-22 game against Memphis State for the title.
