And now ... the Final Four final word!
UCLA vs. Memphis
Talk about contrasting styles: Memphis, with point guard Derrick Rose leading a team that loves to get up and down the court, is fun to watch. UCLA? Not so much. The Bruins prefer the half court game in which every basket is coveted. Which style wins out? It could depend on the inside matchup between Kevin Love and Joey Dorsey. The Tigers have the better starting five; the Bruins are deeper. Plus, the Bruins are making their third straight trip to the Final Four – they won’t be intimidated.
Bracket Boy says: If the Tigers win, the over-under on when Memphis is replaced with “VACATED” in the NCAA history books? 2012. Pick: UCLA
North Carolina vs. Kansas
As much as the Carolina coach preferred that this game did not become Roy vs. Kansas, that’s the central storyline: Roy Williams, the man who spurned the Jayhawks to return to his alma mater, now must beat them to win the national title. No team has looked more impressive in this tournament than UNC, with point guard Ty Lawson returned to full health and Tyler Hansbrough dominating inside. But Kansas is here without playing its best game, and has the depth to counter Carolina’s up and down tempo.
Bracket Boy says: Roy will cry if he wins, Roy will cry if he loses … isn’t the real winner stockholders in Kleenex? Pick: Kansas.
