Winner, winner ... chicken dinner?
If your name is Michael McGrath, you might have a TV headed your way soon ...
Now, the Bracket Boy Legal Team has told me not to officially announce anything today, because they're lawyers. But let's just say it sure seems likely that Mike McGrath, who has been leading the BB contest for some time now, will walk away with the grand prize.
Mike picked all four No. 1 seeds and had Davidson making a long run -- that turned out to be the key in his bracket. He picked UNC to win it all, but it didn't matter. I reached out to him today to find out his secret. His reply:
Bracket Boy,
I have followed sports for a long time and consider myself pretty knowledgeable. The reason I picked UNC was that each year I believe the overall #1 seed has the best shot at winning it all. Davidson, I can not lie, I had some help with that pick. I listen to WFAN sports radio a lot and many people were talking about them. (I also am an avid reader of the Star Ledger and read interesting things about Davidson in the newspaper) I actually called the Ledger and begged for a Bracket Boy bobblehead because I am a subscriber!! I threw Davidson in there hoping and praying and sometimes you get lucky. Other than that I had a good feeling about all four number one seeds this year, so here I am. Hope this helps, if your interested I have alot of sports memorbilia in my basement I am also trying to get rid of !! Been collecting stuff since I was a little kid.
Best and thanks for a great contest,
Mike McGrath
A sound philosophy, Mike. And thanks for the offer on the memorabilia, but I'm going to have to pass. Bracket Girl won't let me bring any new junk into the lab. But congrats! It's looking veeeery good for you.

3 months, 2 weeks agoI said this when we started, and the prophecy came true...you have to play your game for 40 minutes...nice guys finish last and Memphis proved it tonight. Forget thr missed free throws, game was over long before that. Memphis, a team who was victorious 38 times by imposing their will on their opponent went away from that at 5:31 of regulation and began to "run clock". All this accomplished was to take them out of their game, not score and lose all of their momentum. And, in a game such as this, once lost you never get it back. Kansas on the other hand played their game for 45 minutes and accomplished their goal in far superior fashion--especially down the stretch--than the score indicates. Not taking anything away from Kansas, but, Memphis, you gave it away by committing the mortal sin...you "ran clock" and instead of playing to win, you played not to lose...
